Mikel Arteta storms out of Sky Sports interview after Liverpool question

Mikel Arteta was fuming after Arsenal conceded further ground to Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal dominated large spells of their game at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday, but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after a late Declan Rice strike.

Meanwhile, Liverpool added yet another three points to their increasingly impressive tally on 8 March, with their 3-1 win over Southampton, which came despite the Reds trailing 1-0 at half-time.

It means Arne Slot’s men currently sit 15 points ahead of the Gunners.

Arteta left fuming with Liverpool title race question

The Gunners manager was clearly frustrated after the weekend’s results meant that his side have now slipped further behind the Reds.

Liverpool have a huge lead over Arsenal in the Premier League

When asked in a Sky Sports interview if the gap between Arsenal and Liverpool was “too much” to bridge, Arteta stormed out of his post-match interview at Old Trafford.

Liverpool have an unassailable lead over Arsenal in the Premier League

Arteta’s frustration at being asked a question regarding the Premier League title race was perhaps predictable, given that the second place Gunners now have no chance of catching Liverpool.

The Reds have suffered just one defeat in 29 top-flight outings so far, so barring a slip-up of unprecedented proportions, Slot’s men are not going to surrender a 15-point lead with so few games left.

Liverpool do not have another Premier League game until their Merseyside Derby with Everton on 2 April, by which time Arsenal will have faced encounters with both Chelsea and Fulham.

Even if Arteta’s side win both of those London derbies, which is arguably unlikely given their current form in the top-flight, they will still be nine points behind the Reds.

For the time being, Slot and co will be fully focused on this week’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie with Paris Saint-Germain, followed by their League Cup final with Newcastle on Sunday, as they look to add to the Premier League title they are all but certain to win now.
