Gary Lineker loves player he’s been told Liverpool now want to sign

Gary Lineker is a big fan of a player that Liverpool have been linked with over the last few weeks.

The Reds have been one of the most dominant forces in English football this season and currently have a 15-point gap between themselves and second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League.

Things are also going well for them in the Champions League as they gear up to face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday.

However, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from turning ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lineker loves the idea of Milos Kerkez to Liverpool

One of Arne Slot’s main areas of priority regarding reinforcement ahead of next season will be at left-back.

Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson have been solid enough for Liverpool, even if the latter has dropped off this season, but more is needed from the full-backs if they wish to keep up this newfound era of dominance.

Both defenders are prone to making a mistake and even though Milos Kerkez is young, he has all the qualities Slot desires from his full-backs.

And, speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast (10 March, 19m 30s), Lineker gave his verdict on the potential of the left-back making the switch to Anfield.

“Kerkez at left-back is just outstanding,” Richards said.

To which Lineker replied: “He’s really good, they might struggle to keep him at Bournemouth.

Richards then added: “He’s been linked with Liverpool, I saw this week.”

Lineker then simply said: “That makes sense.”

Kerkez would be perfect for Liverpool

Although Kerkez would cost Liverpool a fee in the region of £50million in the summer, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense.

The Hungary international is solid whether in defence or attack and has been one of the most vital players within Andoni Iraola’s system this term.

The Cherries have been a surprise package in the Premier League this season, with Iraola’s men exceeding the expectations of everyone and finding themselves on the cusp of Champions League football.

Granted, there are other areas within Slot’s starting XI that need strengthening, such as up top, but with the recent form that both full-backs have shown, a new left-back should be his highest priority.

However, with the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold still undecided, those needs could shift at any moment and that could throw a spanner in the works for the Reds’ chances of signing Kerkez.
