Arne Slot to ‘get rid’ of Luis Diaz as £25m transfer news emerges at Liverpool

Liverpool fans will be shocked if Luis Diaz is still at the club at the start of next season.

There was an air of excitement when Liverpool swooped in to hijack Tottenham‘s bid to sign Diaz from Porto towards the end of the winter transfer window in 2022, eventually roping him in for an initial sum of £37million.

While the Colombia international’s mazy runs and bewildering footwork have sometimes brought fans off their seats at Anfield, it is hard to deny that his progress has gone stale in recent months.

The 28-year-old has bagged 13 goals and four assists in 39 appearances across all competitions so far this season and although those are not terrible numbers by any means, his lack of consistency has certainly left much to be desired.

For example, all of Diaz’s three UEFA Champions League goals came in the 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield in November and he only has an assist to show for his remaining seven appearances in the competition.

Liverpool enquire about Kingsley Coman

Therefore, it is no surprise that Arne Slot has grown frustrated with Diaz over the course of this season, although he has continued to name the winger in his starting line-ups.

The Dutchman has seemingly decided against rocking the boat by sidelining the former Porto ace midway through the season, especially since the Reds are still competing for glory in three competitions.

However, Slot is certain to address the situation at the end of the season and there are clear signs that will be the case.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool have enquired about signing Kingsley Coman ahead of a potential transfer this summer.

The Sky Deutschland journalist reported via his personal X account on 7 March that Coman intends to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season and could be available for around £25-33.6m.

Slot to replace Diaz with Coman

It is worth noting that Coman will turn 29 in June and it is very rare for Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to sanction moves for players of that age.

However, this could be an exceptional case as Slot looks to replace Diaz with a player who can add a similar amount of experience to the squad.

The France international would not be expected to spearhead the Reds’ attack for years to come by any means, but he would be instead required to provide the threat from the left-hand side until they sign a top young talent in that position.

This would allow Slot to get rid of Diaz and possibly sell him to Saudi Arabia for a decent amount of money, considering he is contracted to the Anfield outfit until 2027.

However, the only problem is the fact that Coman also prefers a move to Saudi, where any of the big four are mooted as an option for him.
