Newcastle fans turn angry at Sven Botman news ahead of Liverpool final – ‘Joke’

Sven Botman has left Newcastle fans angry after the latest update that has emerged about the centre-back ahead of their Carabao Cup final versus Liverpool.

The two Premier League sides are set to face off with one another on 16 March in what should be an interesting matchup.

The Reds have already triumphed over Eddie Howe’s men this season, with the Merseyside outfit no doubt looking to add the first trophy of the Arne Slot era to their cabinet.

However, ahead of the game, some news has been shared about Botman which has left the Magpies’ fans somewhat bewildered.

Botman to miss Carabao Cup final v Liverpool

If losing Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall wasn’t already enough, Botman is now another player who’s likely to be unavailable for Howe in what is Newcastle’s most important game of the season thus far.

The Dutchman is set to undergo a knee operation after seeing a specialist, which will rule him out of contention for the Wembley clash, as reported by the Daily Mail [5 March].

This has understandably left supporters rather frustrated, with one calling it “pathetic”, while another chipped in and simply said that “it’s over”.

Liverpool have perfect chance to win Carabao Cup

Last time out against Newcastle, the Reds managed to beat them 2-0 with many expecting the final to end up going the same way.

Granted, the Magpies didn’t have Alexander Isak to help lead their attacking line then, but with Gordon, Hall and Botman set to miss the final, it’s hard to see how Howe’s men will be any sort of match for Liverpool.

While the Dutchman has been on the sidelines for most of the 2024/25 campaign already, his reintegration into the squad would have helped shore up their defensive line tenfold and would’ve no doubt helped keep Mohamed Salah out.

However, with a fair few of Newcastle’s first-team players set to miss out, there’s only really one way that the final is likely to head.

Of course, anything can happen in football and stranger things have happened, but if the Merseyside outfit don’t leave Wembley with a win, it would be a massive shock.

Because, at the end of the day, with the form that Liverpool have been in this season, there’s hardly been a team close to matching their performance across all competitions.
