Liverpool star Alisson makes remarkable admission after PSG heroics – ‘I think…’

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has opened up following his stunning display against PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds emerged from their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie with the Ligue 1 giants as 1-0 victors, despite being under pressure for large spells of the game.

Alisson was key to that victory as he made nine saves, including some world-class efforts to keep PSG at bay, before substitute Harvey Elliott clinched the winner at the Parc des Princes.

Liverpool will take a 1-0 aggregate lead back to Anfield ahead of next Tuesday’s second-leg tie with PSG, despite the fact that their opponents had 27 shots on Wednesday night, compared to the Reds’ two.

Such a remarkable triumph would not have been possible without Alisson’s heroics, and the goalkeeper told TNT Sports in his post-match interview that it was the best performance of his life.

“Probably [the best performance] of my life, I think. So far, hopefully,” he said.

That is a remarkable admission given the number of standout displays Alisson has put in not just for Liverpool down the years, but also his previous clubs.

Alisson was the star of the show for Liverpool against PSG

Alisson was beaten on one occasion in Paris on Wednesday night, when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled his effort into the top corner, but the goal was disallowed for an offside.

Following that, the Brazilian was absolutely flawless as he completed a catalogue of top drawer saves to deny the likes of Ousmane Dembele and the aforementioned Kvaratskhelia, who was a real livewire for PSG.

Liverpool are on the hunt for three trophies this season

Predominantly thanks to Alisson, Liverpool are heading into their Champions League las-1616 second-leg tie with a 1-0 advantage despite surviving constant waves of PSG pressure.

The Reds will now fancy their chances of progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals, where they could meet fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

Remarkably, Arne Slot’s first season in charge of Liverpool could mark one of the best in the club’s illustrious history, as the Merseyside giants are competing in this month’s League Cup final and should have enough quality to defeat a below-strength Newcastle under the Wembley arch.

The Reds also hold a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League, which could be further extended come the weekend, as Slot’s men take on Southampton on Saturday before second place Arsenal travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

Liverpool are still on course for a treble this term, and if they do progress in the Champions League, the Anfield faithful will always look back on Alisson’s performance on Wednesday night with fondness.
