Arne Slot makes desperate plea to Liverpool fans ahead of PSG return leg
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has called upon the help of supporters following his side’s 1-0 victory over PSG in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.
Liverpool snatched a 1-0 victory in Paris on Wednesday thanks to Harvey Elliot’s goal on 87 minutes, just seconds after he was introduced to the action as a substitute.
The second-leg of Liverpool’s last-16 encounter with PSG takes place at Anfield next Tuesday, three days after Slot’s men travel to Southampton in the Premier League.

Slot asks Liverpool supporters for help following PSG victory
Liverpool will be delighted that they are heading into the second leg of their Champions League tie with the Ligue 1 leaders with a 1-0 advantage.
But the scoreline alone does not paint an accurate picture of what happened on Tuesday night, as the Reds found themselves under pressure for large spells of the game.
Liverpool’s next four games | |
Opponent | Competition |
Southampton (H) | Premier League |
PSG (H) | Champions League (R of 16) |
Newcastle (N) | League Cup (Final) |

Alisson had to produce a world-class performance in order to keep PSG at bay and played a pivotal role in his side’s victory.
Following Liverpool’s win in Paris, Reds boss Slot told BBC’s Football Daily podcast [5 March]: “These players are definitely going to need the help of our fans to show up two times (against Southampton and PSG) as they did in the last few months.”

PSG clash could have gone very differently for Liverpool
It is no surprise that Liverpool boss Slot has called upon the help of supporters following the Reds’ narrow victory over PSG.
Most importantly, Slot and Co found a way to yield a vital 1-0 lead which they can take back to Anfield with them ahead of the second leg.
But on another night, Liverpool could have easily lost that game as they were put under constant pressure by the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele.
Remarkably, goalkeeper Alisson stood firm to deny everything which was thrown at him and amassed an eye-catching tally of nine saves.
However, Liverpool will have to put in a much better performance in order to keep PSG at bay once more on Tuesday night, and Slot is right to call upon the Anfield support to be at its very best on what could be a tricky day at the office.
Following their second leg with PSG, the Reds then travel to Wembley where they will be tasked with overcoming Newcastle in the League Cup final.
