FSG ‘risk wrath of Liverpool fans’ as £99m Szoboszlai exit news emerges

Liverpool owners FSG risk the wrath of supporters amid £99million transfer news regarding Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai has become a fulcrum for Arne Slot’s side in their charge towards the Premier League and potentially the EFL Cup and Champions League titles, playing in 36 of their 42 matches so far this term.

The Hungarian has also contributed towards 13 goals in all competitions, with seven goals and six assists, establishing himself as Slot’s first choice in the number 10 role of Liverpool’s all-conquering 4-2-3-1.

As one of four midfield signings last summer under Jurgen Klopp – alongside Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch – Szoboszlai has the potential to be a mainstay in red for years to come.

Liverpool set to recieve £99m Dominik Szoboszlai offer

Szoboszlai’s impressive form for Liverpool this season has certainly elevated his reputation after a much quieter debut campaign on Merseyside, and that’s resulted in a potentially huge offer from Saudi Arabia.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reported on 2 March that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are willing to offer an eye-watering £99million for Szoboszlai this summer, paying the midfielder an astronomical amount.

The 24-year-old is under contract at Anfield until 2028 after signing from RB Leipzig, but with an almost nine-figure offer on the table, both Szoboszlai and the Fenway Sports Group could well be swayed.

Szoboszlai sale would set worrying precedent at Liverpool

A team firmly on course to win the Premier League, about to take part in a cup final at Wembley, and one which is favourites to win the Champions League, should not be considering selling their best players.

The Saudi Pro League offers financial rewards like no other even in the hyper-inflated world of the 2025 transfer market, yet FSG would surely face a backlash from Liverpool fans if they sanctioned such a sale.

Reds fans are already worried about losing Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia – with the Egyptian out of contract alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – and failing to bring in a transfer fee.

Szoboszlai also heading for the departure lounge, despite Liverpool having no need to sell him, would only rub salt in the wounds, with a potentially title-winning side cut to ribbons at the end of the season.

With only Federico Chiesa coming through the doors last summer, the Reds are hardly facing a PSR disaster if they don’t sell players, making the prospect of Szoboszlai leaving surely a non-starter.
