Liverpool fans react to official announcement – ‘Ridiculous’, ‘Absolute jokers’

Liverpool fans have responded negatively to an official announcement made ahead of next season.

Anfield has become a fortress in almost every sense of the word this season, with Arne Slot’s Reds losing just once at home in a near-flawless campaign; 1-0 to Nottingham Forest back in September.

Aside from that early-season defeat, Liverpool have dropped just four points at home this term via draws with Fulham and Manchester United, and that form has helped open up a 13-point gap at the top.

Watching on as Liverpool put themselves on course for the Premier League title has been an average of 60,311 fans packing through the doors at Anfield every single week, the fourth-highest in the top flight.

Liverpool make new season tickets announcement at Anfield

Liverpool’s decision-makers have looked to build on their momentum by announcing the club’s season ticket renewal period at Anfield, launching a new “Every Seat, Every Game” initiative with a post on X.

Via their official website (3 March), the Reds stated 17 March is the start of the seven-day renewal period, and encouraged season ticket holders to put their seats up for exchange if they can’t attend a match.

To avoid the current average of 500 empty seats per game, Liverpool are urging fans who cannot attend to exchange their tickets on a match-by-match basis, or risk missing the 15-game retaining threshold.

Liverpool fans hit out at new Anfield ticket system – ‘Jokers’

While some Liverpool fans were happy to see a change in the way unused season tickets can still allow other fans to watch matches in the flesh, one supporter admitted that this switch is only “baby steps”.

Others weren’t pleased with the lack of flexibility for season ticket holders, bemoaning the ‘friends and family’ system, and the price of hospitality seats at Anfield also quickly became a point of contention.

Another supporter suggested that unsold corporate seats should be re-sold at general admission prices, with Liverpool criticised for doing vice-versa, and “charging at a 1000 per cent mark-up” as a result.

Further calls for hospitality seats to become general admission followed, and another Liverpool fan took their criticism a step further, calling the Reds’ hierarchy “absolute jokers” for their decisions.

The prospect of the new system not working on matchdays was also raised by a disgruntled supporter, who said they’d experienced a ticket transfer go awry that resulted in “money down the pan”.

Liverpool’s timing of the season ticket renewals also came under the microscope, with one fan saying it’s “ridiculous” that Reds supporters may soon have to pay for their seats “two season in advance”.

The theme of Liverpool’s announcement being an “absolute joke” continued as one fan laid into the re-selling of unsold seats as hospitality tickets, lambasting the club for “ridiculously inflated costs”.

All in all, it’s fair to say that the red half of Merseyside feel Liverpool could have handled this announcement much better.
