Liverpool defy security threat to watch huge talent, could join for free – Exclusive

Liverpool are monitoring a South American talent and could secure his signature on a free transfer.

Arne Slot is set to revamp his forward line with doubts emerging over the futures of numerous Reds attackers.

The likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez could be axed in the summer after underwhelming campaigns, despite the Anfield outfit sitting top of the Premier League.

The Merseysiders could also lose Mohamed Salah on a free transfer, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, so reinforcements are essential.

Liverpool set for Neyser Villarreal swoop

Neyser Villarreal was linked with a £2.5 million switch to Anfield after his exploits at the CONMEBOL Under-20s Championship, with Newcastle United also holding an interest in the right winger.

The 19-year-old was the top scorer at the competition with eight goals and has been described as having “world-class potential.”

Colombian football expert Carl Worswick has exclusively revealed to Liverpool News that the Reds scouted Villarreal at the tournament and could secure a free transfer for his services.

“I can confirm that most PL clubs baulked at sending a scout to Venezuela on security grounds, but Liverpool did send someone and he was part of my group,” Worswick said.

“It does seem like Villarreal’s agent wants to run his contract down, so that he can leave Millonarios for free in November.”

Villarreal move would signal Liverpool recruitment change

A move for Villarreal would signal a significant change in the Reds’ recruitment policy from sporting director Richard Hughes.

The L4 outfit usually waits for a player to prove themselves in European football or the Premier League rather than directly shopping in South America.

It would be a welcome switch for some supporters, who have called on the club to take the direct route to sign emerging superstars for minimal fees rather than paying huge sums once they have proved their talent and adaptability.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool act on their interest but if they can pick up the Colombian wonderkid for free and he develops into a star player, it would be a great piece of business.
