Giorgi Mamardashvili ‘to leave’ Liverpool already with loan move on cards

Giorgi Mamardashvili may have to wait longer to make his competitive debut for Liverpool after completing a transfer in 2024.

The Reds signed the Georgian goalkeeper last summer from Valencia and sent him back to the Spanish outfit on a season-long loan.

Alisson Becker is still the first-choice shot-stopper at the Merseyside outfit, and it made sense for Mamardashvili to stay at Valencia for another season.

Arne Slot’s success in the Premier League this season has relied on a stable starting lineup, including the Brazilian goalkeeper, and it remains to be seen whether that will change next season.

Liverpool loan transfer for Mamardashvili not ruled out

Mamardashvili may leave the Reds on another loan move next summer, according to Graeme Bailey.

The TBR Journalist revealed that the Merseyside outfit are yet to decide on the Georgia international’s future.

Bailey would be amazed to see the 24-year-old shot-stopper accept a backup role to Alisson in Slot’s team next season.

Speaking to Rousing The Kop (28 February), the journalist said: “I don’t think that decision has been made yet. I wouldn’t rule out that Alisson starts next season and Mamardashvili might have another season out on loan.

“I’d be amazed if Mamardashvili would accept the number two role in a World Cup year. They could loan him out, and a team could cover his wages and pay to have him. It’s a no-lose situation. I think if Alisson stays, then Mamardashvili will get loaned out.”

Slot has big decision to make on Mamardashvili

Caoimhin Kelleher has a brilliant backup at Liverpool, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave in the coming months for regular game time.

Alisson has been exceptional under Slot, and understandably, the Brazilian goalkeeper has retained his place in between the sticks under the Dutch manager.

The Reds are at the top of the Premier League, having lost just one game all season, and look to be on course to lift the title.

With the Merseyside outfit 13 points ahead of second-place Arsenal in the English top flight, it would take a surprising turn of events to see them not win from this stage.

Slot has relied on players who featured under Jurgen Klopp in the previous campaign, with Federico Chiesa the only signing to come through Anfield’s doors last summer.

The Reds have exceeded most people’s expectations, but they will evidently need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming transfer window to keep up their standards.

Alisson, 32, evidently still has a few years left in the tank, and the goalkeeping department doesn’t really need to be tinkered with.

Mamardashvili will undoubtedly want to be the first choice at Anfield, but if the Brazilian goalkeeper stays beyond this season, it would make sense for the Georgian ace to leave on another loan.
