Nunez to Arsenal: Shock Liverpool exit speculated – ‘Surplus to requirements’

Darwin Nunez could become of interest to Arsenal as he continues to come under fire at Liverpool.

The Uruguay international has always been a fan favourite at Anfield despite struggling in front of goal since his move from Benfica in 2022.

This lack of output has begun to frustrate Arne Slot, who has often spoken out about his frustrations with the 25-year-old, which could result in his exit in the summer.

The forward has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and now Ben Foster has questioned whether he could move to the Gunners.

Nunez to Arsenal remains unlikely after Liverpool form

It is fair to say that the former Benfica man’s qualities have been on show less and less as the campaign has gone on.

With that being said, it looks as if the Reds’ number nine is set to get his hands on a Premier League medal at the end of the season.

Once he has collected this accolade, there is every chance that Nunez could look to be on the move with Al-Nassr showing an interest.

Now it has been suggested that the Emirates could be a potential destination as Mikel Arteta looks for a striker to solve his problems upfront.

Dave Watson posed this idea on the Football Fill-In (28 February) as he said: “We’ve spoken about Arsenal, if Nunez is potentially surplus to requirements at Liverpool and he’s got his eye on Saudi Arabia, if you’re Arsenal would you take him?”

It is safe to say that Foster couldn’t see a move materialising as he replied: “No, I don’t think you would. I think he spurns too many big opportunities. Arsenal need to be buying a killer, a brute, the ruthless one.”

Nunez destined to exit Liverpool

It feels highly likely that the L4 club are going to part ways with their record signing at the end of the season after what has been a disastrous few weeks.

Nunez’s miss against Aston Villa was just the tip of the iceberg and has allowed cracks to become visible at Anfield.

The Uruguayan and his manager have a lot to thank Mohamed Salah for given how electric his form and goal output has been this campaign.

There is every chance that the Egypt international could be on his way out at the end of the season as his contract runs down and the ex-Almeria man could follow him.

If this was to be the case, there is every chance that Slot has a huge rebuild job ahead of him in his summer window in charge.
