Liverpool injury news: Joe Gomez return timeline revealed

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez very likely had a Grade 4 rupture which required surgery on his hamstring, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the England international will need to use the off-season to properly rehab from his setback.

The 27-year-old has not featured for the Reds this year, with his last appearance coming at the end of December when his side beat West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium.

Premier League title push likely to go ahead for Liverpool without Joe Gomez

The Reds are challenging for the Premier League and are in pole position to secure the title.

However, it seems like they will have to go through with the majority of the games without Gomez as he’s not likely to start games regularly this season with him expected to be back in early May.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Liverpool News: “He very likely had a Grade 4 rupture and the distance between the torn ends was long enough to justify surgical repair.

Very unlikely that he would be starting games regularly again this season after an extended layoff with an early May return seeming likely.

He will need to use the off-season to rehab and recover and I think if he has a good pre-season, he should start next season at 100 per cent.

Arne Slot needs the rest of his defenders to remain fit

Arne Slot will want all of his players available for the rest of the season, but he’s set to be without Gomez and Conor Bradley at least for a short while.

Given the fact that it’s going to be important to close games out, he will be hoping that there are no more defensive injuries until the end of the season.

Gomez, who’s not been a regular start, offered cover at centre-back and right-back and his absence certainly will be felt.

He’s also not likely to be rushed back as he will be returning from surgery and will be more susceptible to re-injury.
