Szoboszlai shocks in ‘ridiculous’ scenes as Liverpool beat Newcastle
Liverpool beat Newcastle with Dominic Szoboszlai having a starring role at Anfield on Wednesday.
The Hungarian midfielder has been criticised for a lack of goal involvements for Arne Slot‘s side despite their lofty league position.
However, the former RB Leipzig man has made the detractors look silly with two goals in his last two Premier League matches and his latest strike may have been the most important yet.
The Reds are now 13 points clear at the summit with 11 matches left to play and Szoboszlai has played a huge part in that margin with his displays recently.

Liverpool star Szoboszlai stuns v Newcastle
The 24-year-old left former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood stunned with his actions in the 26 February contest.
Speaking on Sky Sports (26 February, 22:07 pm), he said: “My man of the match tonight is Szoboszlai, that boy has got an extra lung.
“I mean, it’s ridiculous how much energy he’s got, he would give me nightmares if I was playing against him because I wouldn’t want to chase him around the pitch.”

Szoboszlai finally justifying his signing
The Hungary captain has often frustrated Reds supporters and former Red Jamie Carragher with a lack of contributions since his arrival on Merseyside with the latter claiming he would rather have West Ham star Lucas Paqueta.
However, he is coming with moments on a regular basis recently and is finally proving why the L4 outfit were willing to pay £60 million to secure his services.
All competitions (24/25) | Goals | Assists |
Szoboszlai | 6 | 6 |
His work rate and off-the-ball ability were never under question, he had excelled in that part of his game since he moved to Anfield under Jurgen Klopp but his goal record left a lot to be desired with the occasional stunner not enough for a side challenging for the highest honours.
Comparisons to arguably Liverpool’s greatest-ever player Steven Gerrard did not help his case but he is finally emulating the former England star and regularly notching goals and changing matches singlehandedly.
At 24, there is still considerable room for development and it would not be a surprise if his level went up another notch after his recent form made him undroppable for the run-in, which is unfortunate for Curtis Jones.
His influence seems to be growing every week and he is a key reason why the Reds are in pole position to secure the title in Slot’s first season on Merseyside.
