Salah exit: ‘Crazy’ £100m Liverpool claim made on Sky Sports – ‘Can’t believe this’

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has continued to be linked with exit as his contract continues to run down at Anfield.

The Egypt international’s current deal expires at the end of the campaign but that hasn’t stopped him hitting the form of his life.

Salah’s superb form continued against Newcastle United on Wednesday (26 February) as the 32-year-old grabbed his 16th and 17th assists of the season.

Adding this to his 25 Premier League goals only enhances questions as to why Arne Slot and Co. haven’t moved to extend the winger’s contract which is still up in the air – or at least that is how it appears from the outside.

Jamie O’Hara can’t believe Salah contract situation at Liverpool

Contract discussions have captured the headlines at regular intervals this campaign as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also await extensions to their current deals.

With that being said, arguably the biggest complaint in recent months is the lack of movement with Salah, who hasn’t been shy about the fact discussions are yet to happen at Anfield.

This has left the vast majority of supporters in L4 baffled given how important the ex-Chelsea man has been for the Reds since signing in 2017.

This has been echoed by O’Hara on Sky Sports News (27 February, 12:07pm) as has compared the situation to Casemiro at Manchester United.

He said: “I can’t believe this is even up for debate. I know he’s 32, and Liverpool are sceptical about long-term contracts, but let me tell you now – Salah is not like Casemiro. Casemiro carries a bit, he’s unfit and is struggling.

“Salah’s legs aren’t going. He’ll score goals in the Premier League for the next four or five seasons. Give him what he wants. To replace him will cost over £100m, and you might not even get the player you want.

“Mo Salah is worth over £100m. Keep him at the football club. It’s crazy to think he might not be there next season.”

Liverpool must break bank to keep Salah

The Egyptian may be 32 but regardless of this, there is no chance that the Reds can ever sign someone who can truly replicate his goal output.

Since moving to Anfield, the forward has netted over 240 goals, cementing himself in the upper echelons of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers.

Given the level of names the former Roma man is surrounded by, there is no reason to let him walk away on a free transfer.

This would force Slot to rely on the likes of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, which could result in a drop down the Premier League table.

Given how likely it looks that a title is coming to Anfield, surely that risk can’t be taken and Salah needs to remain for at least one more campaign on Merseyside.
