Andy Robertson ‘considering his options’ as Paul Joyce makes transfer admission

Andy Robertson could be packing his bags already as Paul Joyce makes a new Liverpool transfer admission.

Robertson has been a loyal servant for Liverpool since joining them from Hull City following their relegation in 2017, making 332 appearances across all competitions and contributing towards 77 goals.

The Scotland international was a pivotal figure in the Reds’ triumphant runs in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in recent years and has even captained the side on occasion.

However, with the left-back turning 31 years old in March, there are concerns about his ability to meet the demands of Arne Slot’s playing style across a full season.

That is why ‘succession planning’ is required at left-back for Liverpool this summer, according to Paul Joyce.

The reliable journalist reported via The Times website on Monday (24 February) that the Reds have already been ‘studying solutions’ to strengthen their options at left-back.

Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez has been linked with a move to Anfield, while Jorrel Hato of Ajax is also under consideration on Merseyside.

With Joyce revealing Liverpool’s interest in at least two left-backs at this stage of the season, it is certain that the Reds will look to bring one in the summer.

This means Robertson could fall down the pecking order next season, raising doubts over his long-term future at Anfield.

Robertson to seek Anfield exit

However, Robertson still has a few years of football left in him and anyone who knows the Scot would agree that he will not be happy spending time on the bench.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if the former Celtic ace sought a move away from Anfield at the end of the season, with several clubs certainly happy to acquire his services.

Robertson will only have a year remaining on his contract when the 2025-26 season starts, so this summer would be the last opportunity for the Premier League table-toppers to demand a significant transfer fee for him.

It is worth noting that Liverpool also have Kostas Tsimikas in their ranks, but he is not viewed as a ‘long-term solution’, as per Joyce.

However, it is easier to convince the Greek to settle for a place on the bench than Robertson.
