Arne Slot shares honest Mohamed Salah contract admission at Liverpool
Arne Slot dropped an honest verdict on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool after the recent form he’s been in.
Salah has been the Reds’ best player this season by a country mile and without him among their ranks, the Merseyside outfit would be far worse off.
At the moment, Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table and have created an 11-point gap between themselves and second-placed Arsenal.
And, while their form in the top flight as well as the Champions League might be among some of the best in world football, the question of where Salah’s future lies is still hanging over the heads of the Anfield outfit.
Which is why Slot’s admission about the future of the Egypt international may have caused some concern among the fanbase.

Liverpool may have to pay more to extend Salah’s contract
While the Reds’ stance of wanting Salah to stay with the club has been clear since the start of the season, no rumours of talks have yet surfaced.
Both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts are also set to expire at the end of the term with their futures also up in the air.
Team | Position | Points |
Liverpool | 1st | 64 |
Arsenal | 2nd | 53 |
Nottingham Forest | 3rd | 47 |
Manchester City | 4th | 44 |
However, Salah is likely the Reds’ main priority due to the immaculate performances he’s put in since the start of the campaign.
And, speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s game against Newcastle on Wednesday (26 February), Slot has shared an honest admission about how Salah’s recent form could affect their contract talks.
“You can look at it in both ways [Salah’s form]. You can say the better he does the more expensive he might become and if he did really worse we would have second thoughts to extend his contract,” he said in quotes relayed by The Guardian.
“For everyone it is best that he brings in the performances he does now; maybe only for the one who has to pay him it is not the best.
“For everyone else it is the best because if you want to play at this club you need to be at his level otherwise you are almost useless to play at this club because we only need players that are at the top of their game.
“Because this is one of the best, or the best, club in the world to play for. He needs to have these performances for him to play here and hopefully to extend here.”

Slot need to keep his best players at Anfield
If any of the Reds’ big three players end up leaving the Anfield outfit on a free transfer at the end of the season, it’ll be nothing short of a travesty.
The trio have been one of the main reasons behind Liverpool’s dominance this season and would cost an absolute fortune to replace.
Granted, Alexander-Arnold has had his dodgy moments this season but on paper, there isn’t another right-back who has the same sort of productivity that the Englishman can bring to Slot’s team.
Van Dijk is still also one of the best defenders in the Premier League and Salah, well he’s just Salah.
Indeed, things can change and there can be some bargains to be had in the transfer market but the best way for Liverpool to ensure that their progression doesn’t stagnate next term will be by keeping their top players for as long as possible.
Otherwise, they’ll find themselves in massive need of a rebuild which, to be quite frank, they can’t really afford to do.
