Liverpool make move to sign ex-Everton star, deal done – Sky Sports

Liverpool have taken concrete steps to pull off an unlikely transfer coup by luring a former Everton star to Anfield.

Arne Slot and Co took another step towards clinching the Premier League title as they earned a rather comfortable 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (23 February), courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The title is Liverpool’s to lose now as they boast an 11-point lead over Arsenal with as many games left to play, while they are also in the EFL Cup final and the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Therefore, it is not a surprise that Anfield power brokers already have an eye on next season, with plans for the summer transfer window already underway behind the scenes.

Liverpool take ‘concrete’ steps to sign Ademola Lookman

Liverpool are interested in signing Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in the summer, according to Sky Sports in Switzerland.

The broadcasters reported via their website on Monday (24 February) that the 27-year-old leaving Atalanta at the end of the season is a ‘done deal’.

This comes after the attacker got involved in an ‘open conflict’ with Gian Piero Gasperini in the aftermath of a missed penalty in Atalanta’s Champions League defeat against Club Brugge on Tuesday (18 February).

Lookman for Atalanta in 2024-25

Lookman’s entourage has already been in touch with Liverpool to discuss the possibility of a permanent transfer in the summer.

Arsenal have also enquired about signing the Nigeria international, but they have not taken ‘concrete’ steps like the Merseyside-based club have.

Arne Slot’s side view Lookman as one of the most credible options to replace Mohamed Salah if he leaves for free at the end of the season.

Lookman could overlook Everton affiliation

It is worth noting that Lookman was on Everton‘s books for two years between 2017 and 2019 before joining RB Leipzig.

The Nigerian made 48 appearances across all competitions for the Goodison Park outfit during that spell, bagging four goals and two assists in the process.

He could now overlook his past with the Toffees to seal a transfer to Liverpool in the summer.
