Alan Shearer drops brutal Darwin Nunez verdict at Liverpool

Alan Shearer questioned Darwin Nunez’s attitude as he analysed his season with Liverpool so far.

The 25-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Reds this term, scoring four goals and contributing only two assists on Merseyside.

Having initially moved to Anfield for a fee of £85million, many believe that Nunez is not living up to his price tag from Benfica.

Shearer questions Nunez in brutal analysis

Appearances for the forward have been sporadic throughout the season so far which isn’t massively surprising given some of the talent there is in the attacking ranks at Liverpool.

However, there are certainly some concerns over the player’s quality with Jamie Carragher insisting that he isn’t convinced by him, suggesting that an exit from Merseyside could be on the cards.

Furthermore, when the striker was handed a big chance for the winner against Aston Villa, he put the ball over the crossbar, when it was probably easier to score.

As a result, the forward was an unused substitution in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday (23 February) and discussions over his quality have continued.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Shearer said: “He’s not a good finisher is he? I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to work it out. You just watch him. If he was a really good finisher he’d be playing every week.

“If I missed a chance, I was craving for the next one to come along where as some people will think oh my god I’m going to get criticised off the fans, what if I get another one in five minutes and I miss that one. The really good goal scorers don’t let the missed chances affect them. In fact, it makes them get better. But, you’ve got to keep getting in there.

“I’m not sure whether it means enough to him. I can’t say that for certain but only on the eye and looking at him, I don’t know.”

Darwin Nunez could be set for Liverpool exit

It has been reported that there is interest in Nunez from Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window and considering how his season has gone, the Reds could well be convinced into selling.

Liverpool are said to be looking for a fee of £60million to take the striker away which, given how much they paid for him, is understandable as they will still be making a loss.

Nunez may have accepted that his future lies away from Anfield and with the other attacking options available to Arne Slot, who will likely strengthen his side too, you can understand why.

The big question lies over whether Mohamed Salah will extend his time in Merseyside or if he will walk away and seek new opportunities which could play a big part in shaping Liverpool’s attack next term.

However, either way, it is not going the way either party would have hoped at Anfield so far and with that in mind, Nunez may be better searching for opportunities elsewhere.
