Alexander-Arnold flops, Salah 9/10 – Liverpool player ratings v Manchester City

Mohamed Salah was the star for Liverpool once again as they earned a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Liverpool edged another step closer to winning the Premier League as they claimed a comfortable win against the reigning champions at their own home, courtesy of goals from Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Arne Slot’s side now boast an 11-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand, though.

Here, Liverpool News rates the Reds players out of 10.

Alisson – 6

Was not really threatened by the Manchester City attack and dealt with everything thrown at him as he claimed a rather comfortable clean sheet at the Etihad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Off for Jarell Quansah 90+2′) – 4

Jeremy Doku caused Alexander-Arnold some issues at the back, but was involved in the lead-up to Szoboszlai’s goal, playing a lobbed pass in the build-up.

Virgil van Dijk composed in defence

Ibrahima Konate – 6

Konate was a solid presence at the back, putting his body on the line when needed while also displaying an impressive reading of the game.

Virgil van Dijk – 7

As opposed to Konate, Van Dijk hardly put his body on the line and remained a composed figure at the heart of Liverpool’s defence as the captain.

Andy Robertson (Off for Kostas Tsimikas 74′) – 5

As ever, Robertson was Liverpool’s marauding full-back from on the left-hand side, but did not produce anything spectacular. Could have been booked for a foul on Savinho in the first half.

Ryan Gravenberch – 5

Gravenberch has looked off-colour in recent games and this was the case against City too, although he was involved in the lead-up to a disallowed goal by Curtis Jones.

Alexis Mac Allister – 7

Played a key role in Salah’s opener, rolling the ball to Szoboszlai from a corner, and was vital for Liverpool winning the midfield battle against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Curtis Jones (Off for Wataru Endo 74′) – 5

Had a goal ruled out in the second half after assist provider Szoboszlai was ruled offside.

Dominik Szoboszlai second best for Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai – 8

Szoboszlai was one of the best players on the pitch as he produced a deft flick to set up Salah for his opener before doubling the lead himself with a tidy finish.

Mohamed Salah (Off for Harvey Elliott 90+1′) – 9

Grabbed his 30th goal of the season with the opener and edged another step closer to breaking Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne’s assist record in the Premier League by nicking his 16th. Incredible.
