Salah appears to make U-Turn on Liverpool exit comments – ‘To be fair…’

Mohamed Salah appears to have made a significant U-turn on comments he previously made regarding a Liverpool exit.

Salah’s contract situation at Anfield is no secret, with the Egypt international – an all-time great on Merseyside – due to become a free agent in June.

Plenty has been said on Salah’s future, with Jamie Carragher recently insisting the forward has been offered a contract, contrary to previous suggestions from the player himself.

Salah comments on Liverpool future telling

The bottom line is that the Egyptian is out of contract in a little over three months’ time and nothing has been formally agreed, so little wonder Liverpool fans are starting to grow concerned over Salah.

Salah has dropped occasional hints that he could be off at the end of the season, including after December’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in which he scored and assisted.

The 32-year-old suggested it would be the final time he plays against City at the Etihad Stadium, but he now appears to have backtracked on those comments.

Asked by Premier League Productions if Sunday’s (23 February) game with City at Anfield will now be his last against them, he responded: “To be fair, I don’t know.

“I just feel like my whole focus now is to win the Premier League. It doesn’t matter if it’s the last game or not the last game, we will see.”

Liverpool fans hopeful over Salah contract situation

While these comments hardly scream Salah will be staying put on Merseyside, it does provide a little hope.

From effectively saying he’d played his last game at the Etihad Stadium two months ago to now not committing either way.

Mohamed Salah in Premier League this season

Liverpool fans would give anything to see Salah play out even just one more season at Anfield, before then more than likely heading off for pastures new in Saudi Arabia.

Salah owes Liverpool nothing, and likewise the other way around, but in a time of uncertainty with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also potentially heading off, it makes sense to stay put for now.

For now, the immediate focus is on overcoming Man City at Anfield and moving one step closer to a second Premier League title. Beyond that, let’s hope for a positive official announcement on Salah.
