Virgil van Dijk transfer: Liverpool deal ‘difficult’ as interest emerges
Virgil van Dijk is attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window as a potential deal with Liverpool is difficult.
The Dutchman has been one of the best players for the Reds over the years, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
Van Dijk’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, and he will be a free agent next summer if fresh terms can’t be agreed.
Arne Slot also risks losing Mohamed Salah, who is in the same boat as the 33-year-old centre-back, and it isn’t surprising to see other clubs eyeing them.
Fenerbahce eye Virgil van Dijk transfer from Liverpool
Fenerbahce want to sign Van Dijk from the Merseyside outfit, according to Serdar Ali Celikler.
The Turkish journalist has revealed that the Super Lig outfit have the centre-back on their radar.
But Celikler believes the Istanbul club will find it difficult to pull off a deal for the Netherlands international.
Speaking to Neo Spor on X (20 February), the journalist said: “Fenerbahce also has Van Dijk in a corner of their mind. I think this transfer is difficult.”

Virgil van Dijk needs to stay at Anfield
Liverpool must keep Van Dijk beyond this season, considering his importance in the squad in terms of performances and leadership.
The 33-year-old might not be in the prime age of his career, but he’s still the best defender at the Merseyside outfit.
While the Reds have a quality defender in Ibrahima Konate, his consistent fitness issues are a cause for concern.
Jarell Quansah has emerged as a prospect who may have the talent to take the reins from Van Dijk, but it’s too soon to hand the youngster that responsibility.
Injuries have also marred Joe Gomez’s time at Anfield, and he isn’t a reliable option for Slot to count on if need be.
If the Reds were to lose their captain, they would evidently have to spend a lot of money to sign a replacement.
Player contracts expiring this summer | Age |
Virgil van Dijk | 33 |
Mohamed Salah | 32 |
Trent Alexander-Arnold | 26 |
Vitezslav Jaros | 23 |
Trent Alexander-Arnold is another player whose future is up in the air, leaving the Merseyside outfit in a dilemma.
With three key players set to become free agents soon, the Reds need to be swift in keeping at least a couple of them.
Van Dijk’s exit would arguably have the biggest influence.
