Man City v Liverpool postponement latest as Met Office issue new weather warning
Manchester City and Liverpool have been handed a weather warning by Met Office ahead of their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Having won only one of their last three Premier League games, Liverpool lock horns with Manchester City away from home in a pivotal match in their push for the title on 23 February.
With Arsenal only eight points behind with a game in hand, Arne Slot’s side cannot afford further slip-ups between now and the end of the season as they look to maintain their place at the top of the table.
Manchester City, meanwhile, will be determined to stop the Reds in their tracks after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid on Wednesday (19 February) and crashing out of the UEFA Champions League following a 6-3 loss on aggregate.
Club (PL position) | MP | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | P |
Liverpool (1st) | 26 | 18 | 7 | 1 | 62 | 26 | 36 | 61 |
Manchester City (4th) | 25 | 13 | 5 | 7 | 52 | 35 | 17 | 44 |
Met Office issue yellow weather warning in Greater Manchester
Meanwhile, the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds on Sunday, with Greater Manchester among the areas affected.
Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected, with the speed reaching as high as 70 mph in certain locations, while the warning is in effect from 6 am and 6 pm.
The strong winds are touted to be accompanied by rains, leading to ‘very poor weather conditions’, particularly on roads.
Manchester City and Liverpool, though, do not face the risk of their match getting cancelled or postponed as things stand, with the Etihad Stadium built to withstand bad weather conditions.
However, the adverse conditions could cause disruptions for travelling players and fans of Liverpool during their one-hour journey to Manchester.
Players may also have to deal with poor conditions on the pitch, which would add to the interest in the game.

Manchester City v Liverpool to go ahead
Both clubs will be keeping tabs on the weather conditions ahead of the game on Sunday and will make announcements if it gets worse to the point that the fixture needs to be cancelled.
However, preparations are going on as expected for the time being, with Arne Slot holding his pre-match press conference at Kirkby on Thursday (11 February) morning.
It remains to be seen if the Anfield outfit can return to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa on Wednesday, 19 February.
