Thibault Courtois makes stunning Liverpool admission
Thibault Courtois is keen on a reunion with Liverpool as Real Madrid prepare to take on Manchester City on Wednesday.
The Belgian made nine saves in the 2022 Champions League final as a Vinicius Jr strike defeated the Reds.
In this campaign, the Anfield outfit automatically qualified for the round of 16 after topping the league-phase.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos host Pep Guardiola’s side (19 February) in the second leg of the playoff round and the 32-year-old is already looking past them and towards their Premier League rivals.
Real Madrid star Courtois makes Liverpool admission
Madrid hold a 3-2 lead heading into the clash with City at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and Courtois admitted that he wants a reunion with the Merseysiders later in the competition.
Speaking on the Rio Meets podcast with Rio Ferdinand (18 February), he said: “I hope we will meet Liverpool again and hopefully win because they are doing well this season”
Red supporters will be desperate to avoid Madrid given the way that recent encounters between the sides have unfolded.
Liverpool supporters will want to avoid Real Madrid
Arne Slot’s side are flying in the Premier League and in Europe so far this season leading the title race and progressing to the knockout stages by finishing top of the league phase.
However, the Spanish club have won five of their last six matches against the Anfield outfit, including two Champions League finals.
The 15-time competition winners beat Brendan Rodgers’ side twice in the group stages in 2014 but that was expected due to the state of the Merseysiders squad at the time.
The teams then met in the 2018 Champions League final when two Loris Karius mistakes confined a historic campaign under Jurgen Klopp to misery.

The German would lead the club to domestic and European glory before the Spaniards beat his side again in the round of 16 in 2021 and 2023.
However, the most heartbreaking result is the 2022 final and the Reds will hope that they can avoid Carlo Ancelotti’s team because they seem to always find a way to win when they face Liverpool even when they are outplayed.
Any team that beats the Italian’s unflappable squad will be the favourites to take the glory and Slot’s side could put a marker down if they can end their Madrid hoodoo.
