Liverpool fans rage at Robertson decision v Aston Villa – ‘Sick Joke’, ‘Why?’

Arne Slot has made one change to his starting line-up for Liverpool’s visit to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

He has stuck with the majority of the team that secured a tense 2-1 victory against Wolves on Sunday (16 February).

The Reds are looking to take a ten-point advantage at the summit of the Premier League at Villa Park (19 February) in a clash that has been moved to the Carabao Cup final.

Slot will be looking for a reaction that a poor second-half performance that nearly led to dropped points but for a superb Jarell Quansah block.

Liverpool make one change for Aston Villa clash

The only change made by Arne Slot is Curtis Jones returning to the Reds’ starting line-up after missing the Wolves win due to his red card against Everton (12 February).

Dominic Szoboslai is expected to operate on the left-wing as Luis Diaz has dropped to the bench with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah keeping their place in the front three.

Ibrahima Konate starts alongside Virgil van Dijk despite a shaky first-half where he nearly picked up a red card against Wolves that saw Quansah replace him at the interval.

Andy Robertson decision causes concern for Liverpool

Despite Andy Robertson’s poor performances against Everton and Wolves, he retains a starting berth with Kostas Tsimikas remaining on the bench.

The decision has caused concern among the fanbase with one supporter claiming that “this has got to be a sick joke.”

Another commented that Slot is “asking for trouble” if the Scotland captain is starting again for the Reds.

The 30-year-old has been steadily declining from the legendary figure that helped Jurgen Klopp’s charges to Premier League and Champions League titles for a considerable period.

Despite this, the Greek cannot seem to displace him in the starting eleven and is surely set to exit the club in the summer as a result.

If the Reds drop points in a crucial title race clash, the decision may come back to haunt Slot given the fact that Tsimikas outperformed his rival in the Wolves victory and the Merseyside derby when replacing him from the bench.
