Arne Slot punishment: ‘Significant offence’ claim after Liverpool incident

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has so far avoided a touchline ban for the ugly scenes that followed the 2-2 draw with Everton.

The Reds boss was sent off with assistant Sipke Hulshoff and Curtis Jones after the final whistle at Goodison Park on 12 February.

The Dutchman and his right-hand man have have until Wednesday (19 February) to respond after they charged by the Football Association for their involvement in the fracas.

An FA statement accused the Liverpool manager of “acting in an improper manner and/or using insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.”

Arne Slot set for punishment after Everton scenes

Arne Slot is set to find out his punishment soon for his involvement in the chaotic scenes after the Merseyside derby and Dan Plumley gave his verdict to Liverpool News.

He said: “I think it is, you always kind of look to the fines as a deterrent and if it is a significant offence in the eyes of the rule makers then you might make that fine a much higher price to make it a deterrent.

“I do also think though and we’ve talked about this in terms of what is the right kind of punishment and with financial regulation ‘we’d say well you’ve got to hit the club where it hurts’ which is an on-pitch points deduction.

“Actually, not having the manager on the touchline might be a real blow to a club, so I guess we are kind of down the road of fines are the biggest deterrent nowadays but actually you know sometimes I think touchline bans are more relevant.

“That might have an impact and that might maybe have an impact on the result as well which is important in the context of not just making it a deterrent but how you really punish these offences as well.”

However, they face trips to Aston Villa (19 February) and Manchester City (23 February) before they host Newcastle (26 February) but Slot may not be on the touchline for the latter two contests depending on what punishment he receives.

It will be a major blow for the Anfield outfit if they lose the Dutchman for those crucial encounters as he bids for the title in his maiden season in English football
