Liverpool line up cut-price Frenkie de Jong transfer as sources share condition
Liverpool deem the asking price set by Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong as ‘fair’, but there is one condition for the transfer to go through.
De Jong continues to be linked with a move away from Barcelona, although he is keen to see out his contract at Camp Nou and pocket the agreed wages until then.
The La Liga giants, though, are keen to cash in on the Netherlands international in an attempt to raise funds and reduce their wage bill as he enters the final year of his contract in the summer.
Liverpool are seemingly prepared to offer the 27-year-old an escape route out of Catalonia ahead of next season.
Liverpool deem Barcelona terms ‘fair’
Barcelona are willing to listen to offers in the region of £29million for De Jong in the summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The news outlet reported via their website on 18 February that the Reds view the asking price as ‘fair’, meaning an agreement between the two clubs would not be a problem.
However, sources have already identified one major condition that needs to be met for the transfer to go through as De Jong prepares for a ‘very hot’ summer.
The Dutchman would have to agree to a significant pay cut for any transfer to Liverpool to come to fruition.
This is particularly a problem because De Jong has been reluctant to reduce his demands in the past.
Arne Slot‘s side, meanwhile, will only look to sign the midfielder on ‘different salary conditions’, although they admire him.
Juventus in mix for Frenkie de Jong
Juventus have also enquired about the possibility of signing De Jong on the back of Douglas Luiz’s unconvincing performances.

The Serie A giants, though, have no intention to step up their interest in the former Ajax star if he does not reduce his salary demands.
Therefore, the final decision will depend on De Jong, who needs to decide if he wants to take his career forward elsewhere or prioritise the hefty paycheck at Barcelona.
As for Liverpool, midfield is not the only position they will look to strengthen in the summer, with the attack and full-back areas also needing attention.
