Jeff Stelling left in shock at new Mohamed Salah exit claim at Liverpool
Jeff Stelling has been left in shock by what Troy Deeney has said about Mohamed Salah and his future at Liverpool.
Salah’s contract saga has been a neverending story at Anfield this season, with the attacker not yet having agreed on an extension to his deal.
Other players’ futures such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also up in the air with all of their contracts expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Speaking about where the future of Salah at Liverpool could potentially lie, Stelling and Deeney shared their thoughts on the situation that the Egyptian King finds himself in.
Liverpool need to do everything to keep Mohamed Salah
There’s no denying that Salah has been the Reds’ best player this season with the attacker already contributing to 47 goals in all competitions.
With those statistics in mind, it’s hard to see who Arne Slot could bring in during the summer to replace him and expect to deliver the same results if needed.
This is likely why Stelling was somewhat taken aback by the claim that Deeney made about the attacker while live on talkSPORT (18 February, 08:42 am).
“I think just getting him signed up would be a huge boost for them, not just for this season but going into next year,” Deeney said.
“When you look at teams going into the year with confusion and City are a perfect example of this, not sure if the manager or their top players are going to stay around, I think you can then just be calm.
“It just makes sure everyone goes ‘ok Mo Salah is here, we know what we’re doing, we know that we need to build around him’ but I just have this feeling that he’s not going to be there.”
To which Stelling replied with shock: “Really?”

Arne Slot needs to keep his team on track in the Premier League
It goes without saying that the 2024/25 season has been exceptional for Liverpool and their fanbase.
Going into the campaign, there weren’t all that many expectations being placed upon the head of Slot as it would be the first season without Jurgen Klopp at the helm.
However, the Dutchman has managed to exceed expectations and turn the Merseyside outfit into one of the most dominant forces in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Granted, there have been a couple of hiccups along the way but in reality, no team is expected to go out and win every single game.
As long as Slot can keep his men on track in the top flight and at least get them into the latter stages of the Champions League, it would have been a more than successful debut season for the former Feyenoord boss.
Especially since their current gap to second-placed Arsenal sits at a rather respectable seven points.
