Jarell Quansah saves Liverpool v Wolves as footage ‘you never see anymore’ emerges

Jarell Quansah proved his worth for Liverpool with one moment of class against Wolves on Sunday.

The Reds secured a narrow 2-1 win on 16 February thanks to a Luis Diaz strike and a Mohamed Salah penalty in the first half at Anfield.

Despite an excellent strike from Matheus Cunha and consistent pressure from the West Midlands outfit, the home side came away with all three points.

If it wasn’t for the work of the substitute centre-back, the result could have turned out much differently at Anfield.

The England international was brought on by Arne Slot at halftime in L4 as the Dutchman looked to avoid a red card for his side.

Ibrahima Konate had already picked up a booking for delaying the restart when he went to win a header and ultimately ended up crashing into Cunha.

The 25-year-old controversially avoided a second yellow card but his head coach was taking no chances and Quansah replaced him.

This proved to be a wise move as the 22-year-old went on to make a challenge which ultimately helped the Reds secure a big three points.

Former Everton defender Ashley Williams was particularly impressed with this, as footage emerged on Match of the Day 2 (16 February) saying: “He finds himself in a difficult position because his left back, Robertson has played Munetsi onside.

“That is the type of defending that you don’t see that much any more, just being out of position, having to sprint and make a tackle. That’s as good as a goal for me.”

When looking to win a Premier League title, every single player needs to have a positive impact.

This is especially the case when it comes to winning games that are tough and arguably should have ended in a draw or even a defeat.

These make champions and when it comes to the end of the season, Slot will have this moment to thank Quansah for.

Considering a key name like Trent Alexander-Arnold was off the boil against Wolves, it says a lot that a fringe player was able to come on and have such a telling impact.

It was a great moment for the former Bristol Rovers loanee who has certainly had his fair share of critics, including his manager, at times this year.

Although it was far from a glamourous win in L4, the performance won’t be remembered come the end of the campaign if a second league title is secured.
