Premier League make official announcement about Liverpool v Wolves incident

Liverpool took on Wolves on Sunday in the Premier League and they managed to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scored for the Reds at Anfield but Matheus Cunha’s strike ensured that the Reds were set for a nervy end to the game which Arne Slot’s men won 2-1.

Wolves created a number of chances in the second half of the game but Alisson was tremendous between the sticks for the hosts.

Mohammed Salah does not get his second penalty of the game

While Salah scored with one penalty, he nearly had the chance to score another when Diogo Jota was deemed to have been brought down in the penalty area.

A penalty was initially given and there did not seem to be too many protests from the Wolves players.

Emmanuel Agbadou found himself injured in the incident but it turns out that he did not give away a penalty.

The Premier League Match Centre released a statement on X: “VAR checked the referee’s call of penalty to Liverpool for a challenge by Agbadou on Jota and deemed any contact was not initiated by Agbadou, therefore recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted.”

Liverpool go seven points clear of Arsenal

Arsenal beat Leicester on Saturday and the pressure was on the Reds to pick up the three points.

While they had a game in hand, a four-point cushion is far from comfortable and the fans would’ve been anxious had they not beaten Wolves.

There were plenty of negatives in the game, especially the second half, in which the Reds played like the underdogs.

They struggled to string in decent patterns of play and appeared to be fighting to preserve their lead rather than adding to it.

However, in the grand of scheme of things, this is an important result and should the Reds win the title, not too many will be coming back to the performance.

At this stage of the season, getting the three points is what matters and while Slot will be working hard to improve performances, he knows that he’s got players capable of turning things around.

That said, it’s a good thing for Liverpool that they got an eye opener without dropping any points and that will undoubtedly be beneficial for them.
