Matheus Cunha makes huge Liverpool admission amid £62m Wolves transfer news
Matheus Cunha was at the heart of the action as Liverpool battled their way to a 2-1 win against Wolves on Sunday.
The Reds extended their lead at the top of the Premier League back to seven points after goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
Cunha was once again the star of Vitor Pereira’s team on Merseyside, scoring a sensational goal to set up a nervy finish for Arne Slot and the Reds.
It is exactly why Slot admitted before the game that Cunha could play for a top-five side in the Premier League, with a £62million release clause included in his recent new contract [The Mirror, 14 February].
Matheus Cunha blown away by Liverpool
After the clash on 16 February, the Wolves striker shared his “unbelievable” thoughts on Liverpool.
Speaking to Match of the Day (16 February), Cunha sent a message to his teammates after falling to defeat against the Reds.
“It’s like a mix of sensations. We feel good points today but if we start the game like we did in the second half then we leave with a better result. We need to learn. I hope we get more points,” he said.
“Thank you, of course, I’m not completely happy because we didn’t get the points today but I will keep trying my best for the team and to help the guys.
“We need to believe if we can come here to play like we did against this unbelievable club, they are first in the league. The game is not only 45 minutes, it is 90 minutes and we need to keep this level for the rest of the season.”

Liverpool should make transfer swoop for Matheus Cunha
After Slot spoke highly of Cunha and his ability, the inevitable transfer links may now emerge.
With the Reds being at the top of the Premier League, it feels like it only makes sense for Slot to try and make a move to bolster his striking department in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Indeed, Liverpool already have the likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez who also play in the number nine role but judging from Cunha’s form this season, he could make a massive difference to the squad.
He’s already bagged 13 goals across all competitions and has also chipped in with four assists despite Wolves battling relegation in the Premier League.
Adding a player of his calibre to Liverpool’s ranks would likely make them even more unstoppable and could end up transforming their attacking line once and for all.
With contract drama surrounding the likes of Salah and constant links away for Nunez, a new South American star causing havoc at Anfield sounds perfect.
It wasn’t long ago that Roberto Firmino was the name on everyone’s lips on Merseyside, could Cunha be the next Brazilian to become a superstar for the Reds?
