Liverpool ace compared to Steven Gerrard after what he did in win v Wolves
Stephen Warnock has compared Dominik Szoboszlai to Steven Gerrard after a moment he produced in the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Wolves on Sunday.
As the game ended 3-1 in Liverpool’s favour, the Reds added yet another three points to their Premier League tally and once again cemented their lead at the top of the table.
While there were plenty of masterful moments from the Hungary international throughout the clash, there was one in particular that caught the eye of Warnock while he was co-commentating on the game for BBC Radio Five Live (16 February).
Stephen Warnock lauds Dominik Szoboszlai
Szoboszlai has arguably been one of Liverpool’s best players this season with the playmaker often being the creator of many of the Reds’ chances.
While he was brought to Anfield the season before by Jurgen Klopp, it feels like the former RB Leipzig man has really come into his own under Arne Slot this term.
His performance against Wolves was no different either as, during the moment, Szoboszlai picked the ball up from the centre of the park, surged forward and almost managed to net a 25-yard strike.
However, it unfortunately went just wide of the post which will have no doubt been a relief to Jose Sa.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Five Live (16 February, 14:27pm), Warnock shared his praises for the attacking midfielder’s movement with the ball.
“He’s got shades of Gerrard with the way he moves with the ball at times Szoboszlai,” he said.
“That right-footed shot, he just opens his legs and then gets that right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner, just a fraction past the post.
“Jose Sa at full stretch, he wouldn’t have got to it, it’s better from Liverpool.”
Dominik Szoboszlai is key to the way Liverpool play
As mentioned, Szoboszlai has managed to more than impress across the board this season.
The midfielder has been in some of the form of his career under Slot and it doesn’t feel like he’s going to be slowing down any time soon.
Other players such as Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have also been essential to the way that the Reds have performed this season but it feels like Szoboszlai has been the stand-out player across most of the campaign.

When Klopp was in charge, he used to sit his midfielders a bit further back which meant that the attacking side of the Hungary international couldn’t come out as much as he likely wanted it to.
However, with Slot playing Ryan Gravenberch a bit further back this term, it allows Szoboszlai to advance with the ball more and his attacking creativity has been one of the best parts of Liverpool’s style of play this season.
And, with comparisons to Gerrard getting thrown around, the 2024/25 season could end up being a remarkable one for the attacking midfielder.
