Liverpool told to make ‘dream’ double Newcastle transfer after what Gordon said

Liverpool could seek to revamp their attacking options in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are currently pushing for the Premier League and Champions League titles but Arne Slot remains unconvinced by their firepower.

Mohamed Salah has notched 32 league goals and assists after his double in the 2-2 draw with Everton but Cody Gakpo is the next top contributor behind him with 11.

That has left doubts over the futures of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez at Anfield and the Merseysiders have been linked with a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Anthony Gordon makes Liverpool comments

Another Magpies star is thought to be of interest to the Reds after a failed summer move and his latest comments have only served to increase speculation.

Anthony Gordon appeared on A League of Their Own (13 February) and opened up about his family’s connection to the club that he was released by when he was 11 years old.

Despite playing 78 matches for arch-rivals Everton, Gordon said: “I have no family members who support Everton, all Liverpool, so it was quite strange.

“If I scored they were like ‘if you score great but we want you lose still’, my family are really bitter Liverpool fans.”

Liverpool urged to make double Newcastle swoop

The Reds have been urged to pull off a double swoop for the Newcastle duo after Gordon’s remarks on the TV appearance.

One supporter called on the club to “get him and his Swede striker partnership to Liverpool.”

Another commented that Slot’s side should “reshape our attack” and “bring him and Isak in the summer.”

However, any deal would be difficult as the Magpies will not want to lose either player as they want to compete for the biggest honours themselves.

The fee to secure both players would be astronomical with both players understood to be under long-term contracts on Tyneside.

Whether the Reds would be willing to sanction such a big fee and give it to a potential rival is another issue that must be considered as Eddie Howe is seeking to take his side to the next level.

That probably depends on whether Mohamed Salah stays at the club and who departs in the summer out of Jota, Diaz and Nunez.

Reds supporters will get the chance to witness the duo in action when their team faces the Geordies twice in a month in the league (26 February) and the Carabao Cup final on 16 March.
