Richard Keys rages over last-gasp scenes as Liverpool draw with Everton

Liverpool and Everton were involved in unsavory scenes after the Merseyside derby ended 2-2 on Wednesday.

The Blues opened the scoring through a well-worked Beto effort which infuriated Arne Slot before Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah thought they had turned the contest around.

There was a last-gasp sting in the tail for the Premier League leaders as James Tarkowski blasted home a last-gasp equaliser at Goodison Park which was checked extensively by VAR.

Several red cards were handed out after the full-time whistle as emotions carried over following the dramatic scenes.

Keys blasts Liverpool v Everton scenes

Emotions boiled over as Abdoulaye Doucoure went to celebrate in front of the travelling Reds supporters which did not go down well.

BeIN SPORTS host Richard Keys was stunned by the length of the VAR check for Tarkowski’s goal, which would ultimately result in red cards for Arne Slot, Sipke Hulshoff, Curtis Jones, and the Everton man.

In a post on his personal X account, he said: “What a way to ruin an occasion. What are they thinking?”

Arne Slot will be furious as Liverpool drop points at Everton

The Reds boss will be furious with the way his side allowed the Blues to get back into the contest at the death.

His side were not at the races for much of the contest but still carved out a winning position in a hostile contest in the final derby at the Toffees’ famous old stadium.

It was always likely to be a fiery clash but both sides avoided a red card during the actual game, with Conor Bradley coming closest for a foul on Doucoure while on a booking.

The Anfield outfit would have gone nine points clear at the top of the Premier League with a victory but they allowed Tarkowski to smash home leading to chaotic scenes after the contest as the Blues jubilation boiled over.

Now, they will have to settle for a seven-point margin at the summit and incoming bans for Jones and the manager after they were sent off by Michael Oliver for their involvement in the fracas.

It is not a devastating blow but it will certainly cause concern amongst those of a red persuasion on Merseyside after they failed to capitalise on their game in hand.
