Premier League told to dock Liverpool ‘nine points’ after Everton incident

The Premier League is being told to severely punish Liverpool after shocking scenes at the end of their 2-2 draw at Everton on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot, Curtis Jones, and Sipke Hulshoff were sent off by Michael Oliver after the final whistle as tensions boiled over at Goodison Park (12 February).

The trio are expected to miss the Wolves clash on 16 February with first-team coach John Heitinga set to take charge of the Anfield contest.

However, further punishment has been mooted for the Reds after the ugly post-match scenes overshadowed the final derby at the Blues’ home.

Premier League told to deduct points from Liverpool

The Premier League have been urged to deduct points from the league leaders for the scenes after the draw.

One Arsenal supporter called for a “nine-point deduction for failing to control their players.”

Another Gunner requested a “hefty fine and a minimum of 15 point deduction” after the “precedent that the FA and PGMOL have set in recent weeks.”

Liverpool to be punished by The FA

Liverpool are likely to face punishment for the scenes but suggestions of a points deduction are utterly ridiculous.

Both clubs are likely to face fines for the confrontation after the contest under the FA’s rule E20 that sanctions clubs if they do not ‘ensure that their players conduct themselves in an orderly fashion’.

The amount of the fine handed to each club will be determined by an independent panel as was the case when Chelsea and Nottingham Forest were charged with same offence earlier this season.

However, a points deduction is a very unlikely possibility but that will not make Slot any happier about the way Liverpool threw away the lead in the dying stages of the contest.

The Reds could have went nine points clear at the top of the Premier League but Tarkowski’s late strike means that their margin is only seven points which could result in a nervy run-in for the Merseysiders.

That is still a commanding lead with 14 matches left to play but with four matches in ten days, including trips to Aston Villa (19 February) and Manchester City (23 February) and an Anfield clash with Newcastle (26 February), Gunners supporters will still believe that they can turn it around.

It is no coincidence that fans of the North London club are calling for a deduction as that would massively benefit their side in the title race.
