Liverpool told to get rid of ‘finished’ Federico Chiesa after loss v Plymouth

Liverpool supporters have called for Arne Slot to get rid of Federico Chiesa after what he did against Plymouth in their 1-0 FA Cup loss on Sunday.

The Italian has only featured in a handful of games for the Merseyside outfit this season as he’s spent most of his time ruled out due to injury on the sidelines.

The former Juventus man has started to be integrated into Liverpool’s first-team by the Dutchman but after his performance on Sunday, some fans have already dubbed the attacker as “finished”.

Players such as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were absent from Liverpool’s FA Cup squad on 9 February but they should have still had more than enough to beat the Pilgrims.

Liverpool fans call for Federico Chiesa to be sold

Liverpool’s attacking line is arguably where the Merseyside outfit are the most stacked depth-wise.

Slot has the likes of Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Chiesa to choose from each week.

However, due to the number of injuries each player seems to suffer, the picking up of the pieces is often left to the likes of Salah and Gakpo.

After one fan called Chiesa “terrible” and another said that it could be his “last time” in a Liverpool shirt, it’s clear that fans aren’t happy with the Italian’s performances.

Arne Slot needs to give Federico Chiesa more time

Chiesa was the Reds’ only addition in the summer transfer window and for how minimal his fee was, it was almost certainly worth taking Juventus up on the offer.

The Italy international has had a torrid time with injuries over the last few seasons but if he can get a run of games where he doesn’t get hampered by absences, it feels like he could fulfil the potential he showed earlier in his career.

For example, when Italy won the Euro 2020 final, the right-winger was by far and away their best player with clubs swarming around him to try and acquire his services.

So, it’s evident that there’s a solid player within him that just needs to find its way out once again.

The attacker has started less than five games for the Anfield outfit this season and if Slot chooses to get rid of him in the summer, it feels like he could end up making a massive mistake.
