Richard Keys admits being wrong about ‘smooth’ Liverpool as quadruple claim made
Richard Keys has admitted to being wrong about Liverpool after their 4-0 EFL Cup win against Tottenham on Thursday.
The Reds overturned a one-goal deficit and fired four past Ange Postecoglou’s side in the EFL Cup semi-final at Anfield to book their ticket to Wembley on 6 February.
Arne Slot’s side were hardly threatened by the North London giants as goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk earned the hosts an easy win.
With Liverpool still active in all four competitions they are participating in, they are in a strong position to win a quadruple this season.
Richard Keys wowed by Liverpool v Tottenham
The highly opinionated Keys was blown away by Liverpool’s performance against Tottenham on Friday as he lauded Slot’s side as “smooth”.
The former Sky Sports commentator also wondered why none of the media in England have talked about the Merseyside-based club being a serious contender for the quadruple.
“Smooth Liverpool. Very impressive”, Keys wrote on X (7 February).
“I haven’t read anything about a quadruple yet. I’m waiting…”
However, he admitted he was wrong about no one talking about the Reds’ quadruple changes less than 10 minutes later as he shared a screenshot of The Mirror with the headline “Slot’s got the hand of quad”.
“Correction. I spoke too soon”, Keys wrote.
Too soon to talk about quadruple at Anfield?
Liverpool fans will be wary of talking about the team’s quadruple chances this season, but it is hard to avoid those discussions in the media as we enter the business end of the season.
Slot’s side are atop the Premier League table with 56 points from 23 games, sitting six points above second-placed Arsenal, who have played a game more.
The Anfield outfit, meanwhile, qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League as table-toppers in the group stages.

Liverpool will have the opportunity to win their first trophy of the season when they face Newcastle at Wembley in the EFL Cup final on 16 March.
Meanwhile, they will look to qualify for the fifth round of the FA Cup when they visit Plymouth Argyle on Sunday, 9 February.
Going by the Merseyside-based club’s performances this season, there is no reason why they cannot emerge victorious in each of those competitions.
While it remains to be seen if they can claim the quadruple, Slot and Co will be disappointed with themselves if they do not win at least two trophies this season.
