Liverpool v Tottenham: Gary Neville shares ‘Mad’ Carabao Cup prediction

Gary Neville believes Tottenham will move past Liverpool to progress to the final of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

The Reds are heading to the semi-final clash at Anfield (6 February) as heavy favourites to make the final for a second consecutive season despite the confirmed news that Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss out through injury.

However, Sky Sports pundit and ex-Manchester United man Neville said on It’s Called Soccer (5 February, 37:49) that he believes Spurs can hold Liverpool to a draw and go on to win the competition.

He said: “I think Tottenham are going to get a draw. I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.

“[Ange] Postecoglou said earlier on in the season – I’m maybe not hanging my hat on what he’s saying entirely, but I’ve just got a feeling Tottenham, I’ve got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season.

“And I’ve got a feeling that, to be fair, they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this. It will be absolute Liverpool favourites, but I feel somehow Tottenham are going to get a draw by hook or by crook.”

Liverpool can thrash Tottenham at Anfield

Manchester United legend predicts Liverpool will lose a game of football – read into that what you will.

Spurs are no pushovers by any stretch of the imagination and have the advantage heading into the second leg after the 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 8 January.

Meanwhile, the Reds also romped to a 6-3 win in North London in the Premier League clash between the sides in December – the result of the semi-final could easily go either way.

Nevertheless, Arne Slot will have some important selection decisions to make for the match, with the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Plymouth on Sunday (9 February) before the rescheduled Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday (12 February) the Dutchman will adjust his lineup accordingly.

A match at a full-capacity Anfield under the lights is a daunting prospect for any travelling opposition, and should Liverpool sneak an early one-goal lead on the night, the roof will blow off the stadium in L4.

Liverpool must show Tottenham why they finished top of the Champions League league phase and currently lead the Premier League by six points.

The last clash was riddled with more controversy in North London as Lucas Bergvall should have been sent off before scoring the eventual match-winner, but that doesn’t justify what was a lackluster display in the capital.

With a consecutive Carabao Cup final appearance on the line – Slot must kill Spurs’ momentum early into the match before the nerves creep in at Anfield.
