Liverpool will ‘have too much for Tottenham’ after crushing injury news

Liverpool will have “too much” for Tottenham when they meet on Thursday, Kris Boyd believes.

The Reds host Spurs in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on 6 February hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to make it to Wembley.

The Lilywhites took the advantage in that contest with a controversial Lucas Bergvall strike but the former Scotland striker believes that Arne Slot’s side will secure a spot in the final.

Speaking on Sky Sports (5 February), he said: “I can see this one being turned around, especially, Liverpool at home, Anfield is a fortress.

“Yeah, you look back and think if it was 2-0 for Tottenham, then it would have been more of a problem for Liverpool because of the way that Tottenham counter-attack.

“With Ange Postecoglou, the injuries they have got Dragusin is out now as well, yeah, they have been able to add a couple of players but I still think Liverpool have got too much for Tottenham tomorrow night.”

Liverpool can secure final berth

The Reds could secure a berth in a first final under Arne Slot at the first opportunity if they can beat Spurs on Thursday.

Given the run that the Reds are on, it is hard to look past them, they have won four of their last five matches and the loss to PSV was with a heavily-rotated team.

Under the lights at Anfield, with the chance to right the injustice of the first leg and secure an opportunity to win a trophy, supporters and players will be highly motivated to win.

With Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero all out in crushing injury news, Liverpool will be ready to swoop in and take advantage.

If the hosts can get an early goal, it could be a very long night for Ange Postecoglou’s charges but if they can frustrate the Merseysiders, the atmosphere may dampen.

If Slot’s side can overturn the disappointing result from a month ago and reach the final, they could lay a marker down and get his reign off to the perfect start.
