Liverpool are surprisingly on the backfoot ahead of their semi-final clash against Tottenham on Thursday.

Last time out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ange Postecoglou's men finished the clash as 1-0 victors despite the poor run of form they've been in this season.

Indeed, some time has passed since then with Spurs adding a couple of new faces to their ranks and no doubt looking to hold onto their one-goal lead for dear life.

However, now that Micky van de Ven has been ruled out of the game, it feels like Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of a win.

Tottenham have had it rough this season when it comes to defensive injuries and fortunately for Arne Slot's Reds, their bad luck has continued with the Dutchman now ruled out.

Liverpool need to capitalise on Tottenham losing Micky van de Ven

Tottenham may have added a new centre-back to their ranks in Kevin Danso but it's unlikely that he's on the same level as the Dutchman.

The Reds are still competing in all of the competitions they possibly can be and even though the Carabao Cup is likely at the bottom of Slot's priority list, it would still be nice to have another trophy to add to the cabinet.

Slot will no doubt play his full starting XI against Spurs and if Mohamed Salah can do what he does and produce a masterclass, it's hard to see how Postecoglou's men could stop them advancing into the final.

With Van de Ven among their ranks, they'd maybe have a better chance but without the Dutchman, it's hard to see how Liverpool won't leave Anfield as Carabao Cup finalists once again.
