Mohamed Salah jokes with Lineker about next transfer after Liverpool saga
Gary Lineker has revealed that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah joked about his next move amid the ongoing contract stand-off with the Reds.
The Egyptian is yet to agree terms on a new contract and is set to leave the Anfield outfit at the end of the current campaign.
Arne Slot spoke of his desire to keep the 32-year-old in his pre-match press conference (31 January) before the 2-0 win over Bournemouth (1 February).
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast (3 February), Lineker said: “I spent 10 minutes with him when I went to Anfield to interview Arne Slot.
“I didn’t ask about his future, no. He was just being funny. He said to me, ‘How old were you when you finished?’ And I said, ‘Well, English football I finished when I was 32 and then I went to play in Japan for a couple of years’.
“He went, ‘Ahh, you went for the money did you?’ And I said, ‘Well yeah I suppose so’. And he went, ‘Yeah, I might do the same’.
“He winked at the press guy that was there, it was just a joke.”
Liverpool need to sort Mohamed Salah contract now
The Reds need to come to an agreement with the Egyptian now, it is unfathomable that he could leave the club for free in the summer.
The veteran is still at the peak of his powers, with 25 goals and 17 assists in 33 matches in all competitions for the Anfield outfit.
That was emphasised in the 2-0 victory over high-flying Bournemouth on Saturday when Salah cut inside and released a stunning curling effort into the top corner to wrap up the contest.

Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal are on the lookout for a marquee signing after Neymar departed but surely the Reds star would not consider a move there while he is still the best player in the Premier League.
Whatever it would take to tie the former Chelsea man down, it would surely take the Merseysiders more to replace his contributions.
Fenway Sports Group may need to break their strict wage structure to keep him but as the banner that is frequently seen on the Kop says “he fires a bow, give Mo his dough.”
