Liverpool ready Miguel Gutierrez transfer as summer plans revealed
Liverpool have watched Miguel Gutierrez of Girona closely ahead of the summer transfer window, according to David Lynch.
The Liverpool-focused journalist reported via his website on 4 February that the Reds are targeting a new left-back with Andy Robertson now in his 30s.
While Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, Gutierrez is also of interest to those at Anfield.
Miguel Gutierrez better suited to Liverpool than Milos Kerkez?
Kerkez has been in red-hot form for Bournemouth this season and it is no surprise that the Reds have been credited with an interest in him as they draw up succession plans for Robertson.
It was Richard Hughes who signed the Hungary international for the Cherries and he could repeat the trick at Anfield in the summer.
However, there is a case to be made about Gutierrez being a better option for Liverpool than Dominik Szoboszlai’s countryman, not least the fact that the former is likely to command a smaller fee.
A quick glance at the former Real Madrid defender’s heat map this season [Sofascore] shows that he is as comfortable operating in the half-spaces as an inverted full-back as he is as a traditional one.

This might come in handy for Arne Slot’s side, especially if Trent Alexander-Arnold, who often operates in the inside channels, leaves on a free transfer at the end of the season.
It, though, remains to be seen if the Merseyside-based club will actually pursue their interest in the Spain international.
In other Liverpool news, this player has returned to the AXA after an issue cropped up in his medical in a deadline day transfer.
