Liverpool get title race boost after Alexander-Arnold injury update

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to miss days instead of weeks with his injury, according to Paul Joyce.

The Reds have received a major boost after a scan revealed that the thigh injury that he picked up in the 2-0 win against Bournemouth is not serious.

The England international is still likely to miss the EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham on 6 February, with no risks being taken.

That will be a relief to Arne Slot and supporters with key matches to come in the Premier League.

Alexander-Arnold injury news is a relief

The update on the 26-year-old’s issue is a major boost for the Reds, with an ideal FA Cup fourth-round contest with Plymouth following the Spurs game for extra rest.

The Merseysiders face league matches with Everton, Wolves, Manchester City, and Newcastle later in the month and Alexander-Arnold would have been a big miss had he been ruled out for a longer period.

In the victory over the Cherries, the England international highlighted his ability on the ball, as he had 68 touches, created two chances, and made 11 passes into the final third as he attempted to drive his team forward. [Fotmob]

The academy graduate has often been criticised for his defensive ability but against Andoni Iraola’s side he won all three tackles that he attempted for a 100 per cent success rate and made five defensive actions.

Conor Bradley is a reliable backup for the soon-to-be out-of-contract star but his creative influence is nowhere near what Alexander-Arnold brings to Arne Slot’s team.

In his 20-minute cameo on the south coast, the Northern Irishman created zero chances, recorded two passes into the final third, and failed to find his man with the only cross that he attempted.

Alexander-Arnold is one of the best footballers in the world and having him available and fit is essential for the Reds during the title race.

Sorting him a new contract to ward off interest from Real Madrid should also be a priority, the Anfield outfit cannot afford to lose him.
