Micky van de Ven sparks ‘Liverpool transfer hope’ after Van Dijk admission
Micky van de Ven has suggested he would welcome a transfer to Liverpool after what he said about Virgil van Dijk.
In recent weeks, the Reds have been mooted to strengthen the backline with Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez [Alex Cook] as question marks continue around Andy Robertson.
However, Van de Ven was on the radar at Anfield before his move to Tottenham via Wolfsburg (Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, 1 June 2023), and now the Dutchman has inadvertently given Liverpool hope a transfer could still be on the cards.
“I really would not mind playing next to Virgil in defence”, he said to The Mirror (1 February).
“He is such a fabulous defender and doing great at Liverpool. I learn a lot from him. When we’ve played against Liverpool with Tottenham, Virgil still gives me tips after the game!
“He says things like, ‘Maybe you could have done this or that’ in certain situations. It shows he wants to help me improve my game.”
Liverpool to move for Micky van de Ven?
Although Liverpool News exclusively learned that the Reds want to sign FC Nurnberg loanee Stefanos Tzimas “immediately”, it is unlikely any new faces will arrive on Merseyside before the 3 February deadline.
The supporters have berated Richard Hughes for his lack of activity throughout two transfer windows, but there is no need to raise the alarm just yet.
Arne Slot is nine points clear at the top of the Premier League in his maiden year and secured the top spot in the Champions League league phase.
However, he is doing so with a Jurgen Klopp team, barring Federico Chiesa, sparking questions about how far the Dutchman can take the Reds once he puts his own stamp on the squad.

Liverpool must strengthen in the summer regardless of what happens this season, and centre-back will be a topic of discussion considering the dramatic drop-off of Jarell Quansah and the constant injury concerns surrounding Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.
Furthermore, Van Dijk is not guaranteed to be a Reds player next term as he is yet to extend his contract, which expires in July.
Nevertheless, Van de Ven will not be on the agenda at Anfield – despite his impressive displays at Tottenham, his injury track record is far from desirable.
