Richard Hughes backed to sign ‘superb’ defender he knows well for Liverpool

Alex Crook believes Bournemouth will “face a fight” to keep hold of their team as the summer transfer window comes around amid the recent interest shown by Liverpool in left-back Milos Kerkez.

The full-back has been linked with an Anfield switch since the start of the season with those rumours only intensifying as his performances have got better and better.

While the defender himself has said he won’t be making a move before 3 February, a potential summer transfer is something that Crook believes shouldn’t be written off just yet.

Transfer expert Crook added that the fact that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes took Kerkez to Bournemouth in his previous role there might help them get the deal over the line.

“Kerkez I think is the one, there are a lot of teams who need left-backs, not least Liverpool and you’ve got the Richard Hughes connection, he was Bournemouth’s sporting director when they signed him and he’s now at Liverpool,” he said live on talkSPORT (31 January).

“So I think Bournemouth are going to face a fight to keep hold of some of those guys in the summer but at the moment, it’s been quite a serene window.”

Liverpool would be making an impressive signing with Milos Kerkez

It’s no secret that the Reds are going to have to explore the transfer market for a new left-back in the near future.

While Andy Robertson has been the Merseyside outfit’s clear number one for the last few years, recently it’s been made known that the Scotsman isn’t as strong of a player as he used to be.

There have even been times this season when Kostas Tsimikas has been chosen over the former Hull City man due to the poor run of form Robertson found himself in.

So, the fact that the Reds are being linked with players such as Kerkez, who was once called “superb” by Jamie Carragher, shows that Arne Slot means business.

At the moment, things are all sunshine and rainbows in Anfield but if one or two injuries occur and Slot has to play his team out of position like he did against PSV on Wednesday, the Premier League title could be taken away from them before they even have their hands on it.
