Merson speculates what Liverpool need to do next month to win the Premier League

Paul Merson has predicted that if Liverpool can get seven points from their Premier League games against Bournemouth, Everton and Manchester City, they will win the Premier League.

The Reds currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal in second place as Arne Slot looks for a title in his first season at Anfield.

However, the Merseyside outfit face some difficult fixtures in February with games against Bournemouth, Everton, Wolves and Manchester City to come.

Writing on Sportskeeda (30 January), Merson predicted that Slot’s side can win the title in the upcoming month as he said: “February will be a defining month in the Premier League for Liverpool. In addition to their upcoming trip to Bournemouth, they face both Everton and Manchester City away from home this month.

“If Liverpool get seven points from these three fixtures, they will win the Premier League!”

Liverpool have a big month ahead

You never want to get comfortable too quickly and until the Premier League title is mathematically won, Slot will not let his side’s standards drop.

The boss has had an impressive debut campaign at Anfield and sitting six points clear at the top of the table is certainly reflective of that.

However, there are some difficult games ahead for the Reds as they prepare to face a Bournemouth side in excellent form, a final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and a Manchester City side who are still dangerous on their day.

Whether seven points from these three fixtures will really be enough also depends on what surrounding sides do but with Arsenal and Manchester City preparing to face each other on Sunday (2 February) before a fixture between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest at the end of the month, these are games that could have a big impact on the title race.

One thing is for sure, the Liverpool boss will be eager for his side to get the best results they can from these games and if a strong February is the outcome, the Reds will certainly find themselves in a healthy position at the top of the Premier League table.
