Darwin Nunez in Al-Nassr transfer twist as David Ornstein drops Liverpool update

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was of interest to Al-Nassr during the ongoing winter transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

The reliable journalist reported via The Athletic website on 28 January that the Saudi Pro League club considered the Uruguayan before turning their attention to Victor Boniface and Jhon Duran.

Liverpool do not intend to offload Nunez now anyway as they see him as an important part of Arne Slot’s squad for the second half of the season.

However, there is expected to be a “significant market” for the forward if the Reds decide to sell him in the summer.

Liverpool to sell Darwin Nunez in the summer?

Anfield Watch reported earlier this month that the Merseyside-based club have rejected a £70million offer from Al-Hilal for Nunez.

With Ornstein now revealing that he was also under consideration at Al-Nassr, it is evident that the striker is in high demand in the Middle East.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Nunez will be of significant interest to clubs at the end of the season.

However, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be open to the idea of selling the 25-year-old, who they signed for a deal worth £85m from Benfica in 2022 [Sky Sports].

Jamie Carragher is of the view that Nunez has not done enough to secure a long-term future at Anfield and would be surprised if he is still there next season.

With the amount of money Saudi clubs are willing to spend on players, the Reds have the opportunity to recoup most of the money they spent on Nunez, if not all, in the summer.

In other Liverpool news, Jamie Carragher hinted at a big-money signing at Anfield after what happened.
