Micah Richards calls out Mohamed Salah after Liverpool win v Ipswich
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah underperformed in the 4-1 win over Ipswich, according to Micah Richards.
The 32-year-old scored the second goal at Anfield on Saturday (25 January) as the Reds maintained their six-point lead at the summit of the Premier League.
The former Chelsea man has scored three goals in his last six matches in all competitions for Arne Slot’s side, but Richards wanted more.
Speaking about the Egyptian on the Rest is Football podcast (27 January, 46:33), he said: “I expected a little bit more to be honest, Gakpo was the man, I expected more.
“When you see that many goals go in, you think come on, a couple of goals and an assist or whatnot.”
Is Salah slowing down for Liverpool?
There were concerns that Salah’s influence was waiting after goalless displays in three consecutive matches, the EFL Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Tottenham and league games against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.
However, he responded to those worries with superbly taken goals against Lille and Ipswich to take his tally to a remarkable 23 goals and 17 assists in 32 matches in all competitions.
He is eight assists away from breaking Thierry Henry’s top-flight assist record of 20 and 17 goals away from Erling Haaland’s goals in a single season record of 36 in the 2022/23 season with 16 matches left.

It would not be a shock if the Egyptian broke both, that is how sensational his form has been this campaign in Slot’s first season in English football.
With his contract ending in the summer, the Reds need to reach an agreement with their superstar because it is unfathomable that he could leave at the peak of his powers.
