Liverpool ‘worth up to £7billion’ after Elon Musk takeover twist – Expert
Liverpool could be worth up to £7billion if Fenway Sports Group decided to sell, Dan Plumley has said.
The Reds were linked with a potential takeover by the richest man in the world Elon Musk earlier this month after his father told Times Radio that his son would be interested in a deal.
However, the Anfield club are not for sale [Sky Sports] and the Boston-based conglomerate are said to be looking to add to its roster of sports teams with a possible £4.8bn deal for the Boston Celtics NBA franchise instead. [Boston Globe]
Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, Plumley admitted that the Reds are likely happy as things stand with their commercial strength noted around the globe.
“I think they are probably happy with what they have got in terms of ownership structure certainly with FSG being very commercially minded,” the football finance expert said.
“On a valuation model, if you look at the predictions for Spurs, the Chelsea figure, the Manchester United figure, look at what City are potentially worth as well, Liverpool are firmly in the bracket, you are talking £5billion at least if not kind of pushing that towards six or seven.
“With the fan engagement aspect, the monetisation of the fanbase around the world if you can start to make that work for you and get that added value through that digital footprint and engagement, you are into five/six billion.
“If you look at the Boston Celtics as a good example to compare, that is a big NBA franchise and we are talking six billion dollars for that, it is not inconceivable that Liverpool fetch that figure as well.”
FSG still have work to do at Liverpool
The John Henry-led group are not finished at Liverpool and have ruled out selling the Merseyside club anytime soon.
The ownership has just overseen an almost flawless transition from Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot which has seen the Reds lead the Premier League and Champions League standings.

There has been criticism concerning a lack of investment in the playing squad and a contract impasse with the star trio of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
However, their ownership is much more palatable than Elon Musk turning the club into his personal propaganda machine.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are reportedly interested in signing a Bayern Munich star on a free transfer.
