Murphy picks out ‘undervalued’ Liverpool ace after ‘wonderful’ moment v Ipswich
Danny Murphy has described Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate as “undervalued” after an excellent showing against Ipswich Town.
The Reds secured a 4-1 win against the newly promoted side on Saturday (25 January) thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
Despite not contributing with a goal himself, Konate has been picked out by Murphy on Match of the Day for his performance against the Tractor Boys.
He said: “If you want to win a Premier League, you’re centre-halves have to play good football. Konate is undervalued in that respect. When he misses games, they aren’t as strong.
“Here’s another wonderful pass from him. People think of his pace, athleticism, tenacity and defending but he’s actually getting much better on the ball and much more confident. That is so important for Liverpool.”
Ibrahima Konate singled out after Liverpool win v Ipswich Town
The France international has had his fair share of critics at Anfield since signing from RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2021.
This has seen Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah be awarded game time this campaign, but the 25-year-old’s showing against Ipswich proved his qualities and why he deserves to start under Arne Slot.
Konate was excellent on the ball while also showing off his physical and defensive abilities by winning 12 duels [FotMob] up against a strong forward in Liam Delap.

It is clear that the centre-back caught the eye of former Red, Murphy which can only be a positive with clashes against PSV, Bournemouth and Tottenham coming up.
