Liverpool could be set for ‘tense’ academy clash v Chelsea after what happened
Liverpool have always had a strong academy with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher making their way from the youth ranks all the way to the senior team.
While the aforementioned duo aren’t the only success stories from the Reds’ ranks, it feels like those two are the most remembered for what they did with the club.
Just like every other club, Liverpool are always looking for ways to bolster their ranks and one way they figured out to do that in the summer was by bringing in Chelsea youth gem Rio Ngumoha.
The youngster has since made his senior team debut and to be quite frank, he managed to run rings around Accrington Stanley despite being just 16 years old.
In fact, Chelsea were so hurt by the fact Liverpool pried the youngster away from Cobham that their scouts were banned from attending games.
Which is why their upcoming clash against Chelsea in the Premier League Cup knockouts next week could end up being quite a tense affair.
Rio Ngumoha was worth the ban from Chelsea for Liverpool
While the Reds may no longer be able to get any youth players from Cobham, it feels like Ngumoha was worth that consequence.
The attacker is still only 16 years old and although he didn’t play the entirety of the FA Cup third-round clash against Accrington Stanley, in the 72 minutes he had, he more than impressed.
Of course, he’s not going to make it into the squad as a first-team regular any time soon but the fact that Liverpool have players of his quality ready and waiting to get promoted to the first-team, bodes well for the future.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the Reds and their academy but if Ngumoha’s progress is anything to go off of, the Merseyside outfit should be in more than safe enough hands.
